Paperless Work Orders

The Paperless PM Work Order System

This optional FamTrac 2000 module allows preventive maintenance (PM) work orders to be transferred to hand-held computers, eliminating the need to print paper work orders which are often lost, not returned, or not completed.

The Paperless PM Work Order System has two components: the FamTrac 2000 Remote Terminal Module Upgrade, and a Hand-Held Computer with its own FamTrac Automated Remote Terminal Software.

The Dolphin®
FamTrac uses Hand Held Products' Dolphin
® model which weighs just 12 ounces and is slightly larger than a cell phone. Its ergonomic design allows true, one-handed operation and fits either hand comfortably.

The Dolphin's extra thick case can handle repeated 5-foot drops to concrete. It has a long battery life -- up tp 20 hours of operation from a single charge.

The Dolphin has an 8-line, 20-column display. Each Dolphin comes with a "home base" which conveniently connects to a PC's standard serial port. Several Dolphin home bases may be daisy-chained to connect to your PC as well.

How the Paperless PM Work Order System Works

This FamTrac 2000 module works with FamTrac's existing PM Schedule and Procedures. With this paperless system, the user scans a barcode with the Dolphin at the equipment site which insures the piece of equipment is actually visited. The Dolphin records the date and time of the inspection as well.

Once the barcode is scanned, the Dolphin displays all the PM procedure steps for that piece of equipment. The system also identifies any failed steps for which corrective work orders can be automatically created.

When the mechanic completes the tour and uploads the data from the Dolphin, the PM work orders are automatically closed and updated with the inspection information.
